Just came back from the dentist.
Damn hardcore. My gums were bleeding. Apparently, it's all these years of tartar build-up and bad oral hygiene. And it cost me $140! WTF?!

FUBAR... part 9
My gums are receding and bleeding a lot these days.
When I brushed my teeth, they bleed. When I sit here typing this blog post, they muthafucken bleed. This happened to Roy last year. His dentist told him to carry on brushing his teeth and gums hard. After a while, it will stop. Apparently, it's a combination of drinking, smoking, lack of sleep and stress. I'm not sure about the last bit though. Then again, we were quite panicky over the B-Quartet launch. Hmm...
Fucken hell, it's been going on for almost 2 months anyway. My mouth tastes like raw cockles every once in 2 hours when the gums start bleeding.

Laptop
Anyone has any suggestions on what I should be getting? The budget is around $1,600 - 1,800. My specs required is at least 2GB RAM and a processing speed of close to 2GB. I've an external hard disk of 500MB so storage is not an issue. So is weight.
No Macs please. For obvious reasons...
I've been looking around for one. Have not placed my bet on one yet. I'm trying to turn this baby into for purely doing music... okay, and the occasional late night DVDs. My hands are damn itchy now... As in really itchy!!!

The Making Of Flight Of Transcendence
I love it when they (Zero Sequence) are so over-the-top! I didn't know Reuel could moonwalk... The scene is hilarious!
Most of us were talking to blank air while recording the documentary. It showcases their thoughts about the album and Weiyuan acting all serious in it. Hahaha...
The album is already out in all good record stores (Gramophone, Sembawang Music Centre, EarShot, etc.). I'm sure that more stores will retail the album within the next 2 weeks.

Meat Loaf - I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)
Nat and I were talking on MSN about dubious music tastes. Then it popped into my mind that I used to be a huge Mariah Carey and Meat Loaf fan when I was a wee 15 year old lad. Y'know, the pre-grunge days. Yeah, I was a late bloomer.
The only thing worse than Meat Loaf's music videos is his song titles. Hilarious stuff!
I'd like to take this opportunity to dedicate this song to my music-loving friends: Edwin, Billy, Weiyuan, Yeeyong, Benita, Grace, Nat, Keishi, Bryan, Hui Hsien, Pamela, Alvin, Terence, etc. If I've left you out, sorry... Support a good cause...
My pal, Graham, father of one, has developed an unnatural love for hiking over the past 3 years. He's taking up this cause to raise money.
The four of us friends will be embarking on a challenging 100km mountain trail race from 16-18 May 2008 in Japan.
The objective of this challenge is to "race" fund for the OXFAM charity which is "...an independent development and relief agency that works in around 100 countries....in partnership with local organizations to help people living in extreme poverty and to achieve lasting change, lifting people out of poverty."

Honestly, I'm not really impressed. Despite what white fratboys would say, I thought Lee An (or Ang Lee *rolls eyes*) did an excellent job, barring the last act, the final fight scene. That was pretty dumb. The Absorbing Man?!? Nick Nolte was too much and too over-the-top. Eric Bana did an great job though.

I'm definitely up for 'I'm Not There', the Bob Dylan weird-ass biopic which is screening on Wed 9 April at 915pm. Anyone? There are a couple of shows which look pretty interesting. The Singapore collection doesn't seem to disappoint as well. I hope they are as good as their synopsis.
There are a couple which are pretty good but falls on April 6 which is the date we are releasing Zero Sequence's album. Ah well.

Ryuichi Hiroki, whose roots lie in Japan’s “pink film” industry (namely erotic films that are released theatrically), explores the world of those who possess this fetish, namely the Japanese bondage masters, known as bakushi. Three of them, and three of their favourite models, are interviewed for this documentary.
Bakushi shows these practitioners in action, binding their whimpering models with elaborate knots before proceeding to the ritual chastisement for S&M specialist stage shows, photo shoots and videos. We also get a look at the history of S&M practices in Japan, and the visibility of rope-play spectacles in various media, including periodicals, films, and erotic manga. This film illuminates one of the more bizarre instances of the very Japanese attention to detail and taste for ceremony.

Finishing the Game

Finishing the Game is a hilarious, eccentric and whimsical mockumentary directed by Justin Lee (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift). The scenario: In 1973, the sudden and unexpected death of Bruce Lee, iconic martial arts phenomenon of the 70s, caused a sudden halt in production of his last film, uncannily titled Game of Death.
Finishing the Game (the title should be self-explanatory by now) picks up from where work was left off and reproduces for audiences the hypothetical situation faced at the time by the producers and directors of that fateful movie. With only 12 minutes of usable footage at hand, the producers make the brave decision to forge ahead towards the completion of the film.
Thick with irony and satire, Finishing the Game documents the producers’ search for the “next Bruce Lee”. They are presented with an array of implausible, wannabe candidates, each replete with his own list of idiosyncrasies and quirks. There’s Breeze Loo, an ethnic Asian who hops around in a blue suit, there’s a White Anglo-Saxon Sinophile who is an activist for Asian rights in his spare time, and the list goes on.
Politically incorrect jokes, all versions of strangely accented English and multiple deadpan moments pervade this piece. Watch to find out who ends up with the coveted role as Bruce Lee’s stand- in!

Born in 1942, New York, Lou Reed first found fame as guitarist and principal singer-songwriter of The Velvet Underground, a short-lived but highly influential avant-garde rock band in the late Sixties. Shortly after embarking on his solo career, Reed catapulted to mainstream popularity with his hit single, Walk on the Wild Side, a title-turned-catch-phrase now more commonly used without its original accompanying tune.
Yet, being more of an artist than a celebrity, Reed released a third solo concept-album Berlin which had a radically different style with eclectic musical arrangements. It was tragically received and the harsh reviews of his work annihilated any hope of performing the album live. His efforts were only consummated some 34 years after the release of the album – Julian Schnabel, art and stage director of Lou Reed’s Berlin World Tour 2007, is the director of this documentary which chronicles the tour.
Berlin’s world-tour was also made possible by a turnaround of critics’ reviews on the album- once castigated and condemned by the mainstream, critics now deem certain songs such as Sad Song and How Do You Think it Feels? from Lou Reed’s third album as classics. Reed was always ahead of his time and Julian Schnabel has now captured him in a moment in time.

Even with the help of his loyal pal, a ventriloquist, the situation turns for the worse and gets out of control.
Afflicted with problems of love and work, can this fledgling director and his ventriloquist pal find a way out of this hellish situation? This unconventional film- within-a-film about the art and perils of filmmaking was shot entirely on HD.

Radio Station Forgot To Play My Favourite Song
Billy, Gavin and Jason did this rockumentary back in 2002 when they were finishing up their final year in NTU. And they never mentioned me in the credits. Bastards. I still use this sore point to wrangle a beer off them time to time...

What's most astonishing is how the landscape in Orchard has changed vastly over the short span of 5 - 6 years. And how young some people like Joe and Patrick look in the video. Hehehe...

Hmm... part 28
This is fucked up.
I'm probably going down to pick up my laptop from the repair centre in a bit. The hard disc has crashed. I was able to boot it up once in every 5 - 6 attempts previously. I really hope I still can do so later and extract my drum samples and the working files for up to 10 demos.
Sigh, the days of not having a notebook is really boring. I've some ideas which I want to put down as soon as possible. Crap, I think the earliest I can get a laptop is another month's time. Anyone has any suggestions on what I should be getting? I'm looking for a high-performance type with 2GB processing speed and at least 2 GB RAM.
No, I'm not looking at a Mac.

Aurora
Keishi asked me to look for him and Clement in London at the end of the year. I probably should since I don't really travel much. But Christmas time is a bad period to catch shows in the UK since most of the bands are on holiday.
But yeah, like with Billy last year, I wanna get away to somewhere really far this year. Well, I didn't really have the dough to do it last year. It'll be great to go somewhere else.
Anyway, it just popped into my mind while I was jogging during my RT session that I've never seen auroras or a solar eclispe before. There's one solar eclispe coming up in August in Siberia this year. Don't ask me how I can remember all this nonsense. I just do. Don't think I can afford it anyway.
Apparently, these are quite common in Iceland. Perhaps, it's really Heima time.

PSP
We've just uploaded a new tune. Weiyuan might add some of his Kaoscillator stuff on it in a later version. This is what we have at the moment. We took some of Max's vocals and chopped it up into a tune.
Yeah, it's pretty much a filler track. We have quite a couple of those. Hopefully, someone will pay us some dough to use these filler tracks for an insurance/ bra/ fast-food (delete where appropriate) advertisement. I is feeling the crunch of inflation...

Nice... part 7
The B-Quartet launch show went well. Had a great time. With the exception of a tune or two, the band delivered a tight-ass performance. Well, we have it captured on audio. So, I guess Weiyuan would have to sift through 1hr 50 mins worth of material. And the lighting was decent!!! Fuck you naysayers!!! (i.e. the rest of the Aging Youth crew. Bastards!)
Now, we are done. I'm resuming the Lard Brothers' Forest Action Team project. Currently, we are hoping Dewi-marie's schedule to be less hectic so she can come in and sing on 'The Boy From Katong'. Ditto for Joanne for our cover of TypeWriter's 'Enemy'. If all goes well, Billy should finish up his vocals for 'Radio Station' this week. I'm hoping we could track Sujin for 'Plainsunset' and Haykal for 'Circling Square' by this weekend.
I really hope to finish this project fast. My backside is getting itchy. I wanna do something else.

Transformers: Animated
Cartoon Network launched a new series last year, following the movie. They absorbed certain elements from the movie while retaining a similar storyline from the original cartoon. Optimus Prime is cast as younger and not much of a focus. The storyline tends to inject more humour than any previous series. Read about it here.

Max always gives me shit about my love for Justin Timberlake. This is coming from a guy who listens to Take That. Seriously.

So cry me a river, dude but he was the one who introduced me to the Johnny Marr-produced act Haven. I rikes. However, apparently they are dropped by Virgin Records and left in limbo these days. A real pity.

Get Off That Thang Thang Thang!!!
This is the last and third one we are doing. I'm happy that we did an annual series of shows which focus on other forms of music rather than rock and whatever-is-the-flavour-of-the-month. We featured electronica acts and turntablists alongside with jazz, reggae and funk bands. It was fun but this should be the last time we are doing such programming. Trilogies is the in-thing until Sam Raimi decides to go ahead to do Spiderman 4. Then, quadrologies will rock our boat. Good friends Fishtank and Ugly In The Morning will be performing over the weekend.
In turn, hopefully, we'll get to do our final event in the "Spank The Monkey" series: "The Monkey Said, 'Ohh, Spank Me One Last Time!'" some time this year too. No, I'm not fucking you. That's really the name of the show.
Anyway, Robin of Camra will be sessioning for Sea Bed Sound. He's roped me in to play keyboards for them. What I mean by playing keyboards is using only 1 finger at any point in time. Yes, I'm doing an Alvin this Sunday. We are opening for the Kuala Lumpur act The Otherside Orchestra. They are a kick-ass band which moved from doing post-rock to their own blend of rock'n'roll, funk, dance and more rock'n'roll. Fer fuck's sake, they have their own strobe lighting operator. The Lard Brothers part 6
As mentioned previously, we will be performing alongside with The Karl Maka and I Am David Sparkle this Saturday at 730pm at *scape, Youth Park. Ian is handling bass duties while Yeeyong is supposed to do keyboards and guest vocals. What transpired last Sunday during rehearsal was:
Yeeyong: Eh, how do you sing the bridge for 'Enemy'?
Ian: (after demonstration) Okay, now I taught you. You do it.
Me: Go for it lah.
Ian: I can't! I'm playing the bass. Can't sing at the same time. Very shy about it.
So we rehearsed a little. Yeeyong sang a bit.
Ian: Eh, your pitching is quite off at certain parts.
Yeeyong: Fuck lah, you do it then.
With the mike "in hand", Ian did the entire song in gusto and the cover of 'Girl From Katong' as well. Shy, my fucken ass. So Ian will be helping us on lead vocals this Saturday. Come down and watch his maiden live karaoke effort. I mean, how can you say no to a face like this?

Congrats!!!

Tomorrow Is Our Permanent Address
Recorded at Snakeweed Acoustic Lab by Leonard Soosay and mastered at Scott Hull Mastering, NYC, USA by Scott Hull, the album is a collection of songs which blends the dynamic live performance of the band along with its experimental edge. Incorporating electronic elements into their usual mish-mash of jazz, alternative rock and pop, B-Quartet adds a different flavour in their already-eclectic style of musicianship.
Named after an e. e. cummings poem, Tomorrow Is Our Permanent Address will be released in early January under Aging Youth Records. The album represents the direction the band is currently taking: a stronger emphasis on song craft over instrumental pyrotechnics. For Tomorrow Is Our Permanent Address, the band blends principal songwriter Bani Haykal’s poetry with its love for soft-loud dynamics and sharply tuned melodies.

What the fuck?!?! The meter jumps S$0.20, instead of S$0.10. I'm totally fine with the increase in the flag-down fee. They can even raise it up by S$0.50 but increasing the meter fee really pisses me off.
The Taxi Operators’ Associations or TOA, in its response, called the fare revision fair and timely.
Of course, it's the end of the year. Everyone takes cabs! This is really pissing me off.
